When our friend Kristin posted a few weeks ago on the painted trend, we were digging a few of the items she found for her round-up. I’m on the hunt for a lamp, and I fell head over heels for this one.
A few tiny problems: A. They don’t carry that base online at anthro, and B. The shade alone was a teensy bit not so much by one hundred dollars in our price range. So (surprise!) I decided to cook one up of my own, instead.
I was literally standing in the middle of Tarjay when I had this epiphany. I am sure if you wanted to reproduce the original shade, it would be with a white one, but I was going for a different look, and fell in love with the black. So I scooped up this shade + this base and brought them home.
And then on the bottom, and in the middle. I simply adjusted it as I went, the beauty of the ‘painted’ look being that I couldn’t really ruin this lampshade. Just gently blur the lines as you go, and you’re good. No perfection needed. Also, I’m pretty sure I could turn this lampshade tiki torches into a good metaphor.

Wow! This turned out great!
I’m always looking for ways to update/save/redesign lamp shades…I love this simple trick. I have a black square shade sitting on my workbench…gonna go paint it now! Thank you…looks great!
