Under a Baobab in the heart of Africa, a wise old man tells the story of the beautiful friendship between the young and the giraffe Zarafa Maki (title character). This is the theme of animation that hit theaters this week in theaters across the country boy who just get away from a slave trader knows the giraffe is soon captured and imprisoned as a gift to the king of France. From there the two embark on several adventures including a pirate and a balloon trip to Paris.
The animation, which promises to please all ages, is surprisingly based on a true story. In 1826 the Egyptian pasha Muhammad Ali gave the king of France Carlo X with a giraffe to be exposed at the newly opened zoo Jardin des Plantes in Paris. The giraffe crossed the Mediterranean sea, stuck in quarantine in the garden when the mayor arrived at Marseilles by land and crossed France to reach Paris, where he was officially presented to the King on July 9, 1827.
The French film directed by Rémi Bezançon and Jean-Christophe Lie, flees the standard adopted by current animations. Zarafa is produced in 2D and features a color palette that ranges from warmer tones, portraying replacement refs the Sahara desert, the cooler tones of blue and gray to the old Paris. According to critics, the graphic film crew produced an animation that can only be compared to the old Disney classics.
