You can't go wrong with a Lanturn that knows Soak. It's the only Pokemon that can go wild with that move. To get a Lanturn/Chinchou with Soak, breed with a male that knows the move. Alomomola would work very well in this process. One, it gets Soak at the Level you catch it. Two, it can be found in the same place as Chinchou/Lanturn. Once you get the Super Rod on Route 16, you could potentially break the game. W00t! W00t! The king of fish is here! Now with 1000 percent more... you get the idea. Don't you agree with me? Yeah, Lanturn seae are great; they're very cute-looking, if you ask me. They're pretty great at battling, too, but their stats are sort of limited, though, which makes these Pokémon a little tough to utilize. :( Once you get the hang of it, it shouldn't be that hard. Hope it gets an evolution some day. Mega-evolution could work as well, but I'd like to see an actual one first.

Oh, I haven't actually used a Lanturn ingame before! Now that I've seen someone talk so highly of it, maybe I'll fit it in to my next playthrough of whatever game I play! n_n Probably seae BW, since I'm going to transfer everything off of that to PKMN Bank. So then I can breed one that knows Soak!
Lanturn is a wonderful Pokemon! Great stats, seae advantageous typing, and a cute design to boot. I've used one numerous times, namely in Sapphire and B/W. Soak certainly opens many doors for strategical plays, and this thread has motivated me to try one out in competitive battling, haha. Although Lanturn normally plays more of a bulky, defensive role in teams, I'll have to see how exploiting its offensive capabilities works out. o:

In particular, Lanturn has access to Blizzard and Surf, moves that Rotom-W can only dream of having. In addition, it has two good abilities in Water Absorb and Volt Absorb. These qualities make Lanturn a fantastic counter to both hail and rain teams, a nearly unique quality.</p> [SET] name: Anti-Weather move 1: Thunder move 2: Surf move 3: Blizzard / Thunder Wave move 4: Protect / Thunder Wave item: Rindo Berry ability: Water Absorb nature: Modest evs: 252 HP / 252 SpA / 4 SpD [SET COMMENTS] <p>This set combines all of Lanturn's best qualities to create a set that can defeat most rain and hail teams. Against the former, Lanturn walls all common rain sweepers bar Ludicolo, while against the latter, Lanturn resists Blizzard and is only threatened by Abomasnow. Thunder gains perfect accuracy in rain, and hits Politoed and rain sweepers, such as Kabutops and Kingdra, hard. It is also Lanturn's most powerful STAB attack. Surf sets Lanturn apart from Rotom-W, being an accurate STAB move that hits both opponents. However, be aware that Surf will hit Lanturn's partner as well, so either use Protect or partner Lanturn lighting plus with a Pokemon that resists, is immune to, or benefits from Water-type moves. Blizzard is a move that hits both opponents, and also hits Pokemon found on hail teams hard. However, since most hail teams have Pokemon that resist Blizzard, such as Ice- or Water-types, Thunder Wave can be used instead to cripple lighting plus sweepers on all teams. Protect is standard on many Pokemon in the metagame, lighting plus as it can scout, avoid a partner's attack, and avoid damage from Fake Out.</p> [ADDITIONAL COMMENTS] <p>The EVs maximize Lanturn's Special Attack and HP. A Modest nature is used to give Lanturn lighting plus more power, as its Special Attack is average at best. Water Absorb lets Lanturn wall rain teams, but Volt Absorb can be used if your team uses Discharge. Hydro Pump is an option over Surf if Lanturn's partner does not want to be taking lighting plus damage, although Surf differentiates Lanturn from Rotom-W and is a more useful move overall.</p> <p>As previously mentioned, Lanturn needs Ludicolo and Abomasnow removed in order to do its job properly. Both of these Pokemon are weak to Bug-type moves, so Scizor is a fantastic partner for Lanturn. It can use its STAB Bug Bite to easily dispose of Grass-types, and also appreciates Lanturn's paralysis support. Speaking of paralysis, slow Pokemon greatly enjoy the Speed drops caused by it. Metagross is one example&mdash;it can even take out Abomasnow for Lanturn. An Abomasnow of your own can be helpful, as it allows Lanturn lighting plus to use Blizzard reliably. It even resists lighting plus Surf, allowing Lanturn to use the move more often.</p> [Other Options] <p>Aside from the listed options, Lanturn has a few other things in its arsenal. Confuse Ray, when combined with Thunder Wave, has a very good chance of preventing an opponent from attacking. However, the opponent can simply switch or double target Lanturn's partner, as Lanturn does not pose much of an offensive presence. Scald can burn opponents and hits harder than Surf, which hits both opponents, but Hydro Pump is usually better. Volt Switch is a nifty move to scout the opponent's switches. Heal Bell can cure Lanturn's team of status, but Lanturn will be hard-pressed to find a turn to use it. Icy Wind slows down both foes, although Thunder Wave serves a similar purpose. Signal Beam hits Ludicolo and Abomasnow lighting plus super effectively, while Hidden lighting plus Power Fire hits Abomasnow even harder. Lastly, Shuca Berry or Air Balloon can be used to alleviate Lanturn's Ground-type weakness, but Rindo Berry is usually better due to Ground-type moves being rare on rain and hail teams.</p> [Checks and Counters] lighting plus <p>Earthquake users will destroy Lanturn, unless it is carrying Shuca Berry or Air Balloon. Tyranitar and Ninetales change the weather from Lanturn's preferred rain or hail, and can put the hurt on it with Rock Slide or SolarBeam respectively. Grass-type moves, especially after Rindo Berry has been consumed, will do a large amount of damage to Lanturn. Ferrothorn completely walls Lanturn aside from a stray Hidden Power Fire, and can retaliate with a powerful Power Whip. My Lanturn is named LANNA , she was given to me by my friend KiaArra. She was the team leader for a while. Calm-natured, with Volt Absorb, she’s quite a tank, with so much HP. Because of her ability and typing, ceiling light she’s immune to one of Water’s weaknesses, Electric. She has Surf, Discharge, Signal Beam and Blizzard, which cover a wide range of opponents, making her an all-round hitter. She’s also good at double battles if she has the right partner (like Quagsire for example).

My Chinchou had also is a level 34 Lanturn( Starbright the Chinchou of course) he is very hard and he can even do double damage power and he is my star. But Krabby is very tough, so when I have Cuttercrab (Krabby)and ceiling light Starbright in a double battle. Their combo, Guilotine and Spark is totally ceiling light deadly.

Overall: Lanturn hasn't changed very much from Generation night lights IV. One new move stands out, though: Boiling Water. Boiling Water in particular is a wonderful addition, allowing Lanturn to burn physical attacker that used to give it trouble. Additionally, this move is a TM, so it can run this with any of its 4th gen moves. Water Absorb is rather lackluster, as Lanturn already resists Water but is only neutral to Electric. night lights Key Traits: 1. Great Typing: Water/Electric is wonderful typing; defensively, it yields a quad resistance to Steel and resistances to Fire, Water, Ice, and Flying. On offense, Water+Electric dual STAB has great coverage with Ice Beam, resisted by only Shedinja, Lightningrod Seaking, and Lanturn itself (see Volt Absorb). 2. Volt Absorb: Aside from his Electric STAB, this is what separates Lanturn from other Bulky Waters. Not only does it eliminate Lanturn's Electric neutrality, but it heals Lanturn for 25% of its HP every time it switches into one! 3. Great Supporting Movepool: Lanturn night lights has a variety of status-inflicting moves: Toxic, Thunder Wave, and now Boiling Water are all great options to cripple the enemy. Lanturn can also support his own teammates with Heal Bell, taking status ailments off his entire team. 4. Lackluster Stats: night lights This is why Lanturn isn't a top-tier Pokemon: aside from its amazing base 125 HP, its stats are terrible. 76 in the Special stats, 58 in the Physical stats, and 67 Speed just don't cut it in Standard play. 5. No Reliable Recovery: Aside from Rest, Volt Absorb, and Leftovers, Lanturn has no means of recovery. This is as big of a thorn in his side as Stealth Rock is for Fliers. Possible night lights Sets: Status Beacon Lanturn @ Leftovers Volt Absorb Calm nature (-Atk, +Sp. Def) EVs: 40 HP / 216 Def / 252 Sp. People come up with new revolutionary sets that get popularized very quickly and become the standard, threats are banned candice olson and overall usage drops. The purpose of this thread candice olson is to remember these once metagame-defining Pokemon of the 5th Generation, and elaborate and discover more reasons why they dropped in usage, why they were so effective, and why the metagame at the time allowed them to be so good. I will be usually weekly posting a new Pokemon that we can discuss. I will try to make the options as interesting as possible, and make sure we have variety for all parts of the BW1 and BW2 metagame. Molk came up with the idea of doing two Pokemon per week on irc so here we got our first two Pokemon of discussion for now. Drapion was at one point one of the biggest offensive threats in RU. It's Swords Dance + Taunt set absolutely ripped through defensive teams for a large majority of BW1, it has quite a bit of versatility, and was in general a very good Pokemon, reaching 4th in the usage stats at one point iirc. However, Drapion now finds itself barely holding on, seeing itself as 50th in usage - now its considered just too weak to do anything, candice olson and not bulky enough to consistently perform, and people don't even mention it when they mention Pursuit. What changes occurred to make Drapion considered so mediocre in the metagame? Crawdaunt, on the other hand, has never exactly candice olson been lacking in power, and was a huge threat in the early stages of BW2 (it got Superpower) as result of this, especially candice olson with its threatening Dragon Dance set thanks to its strong dual STAB combo. Even though Slowking is everywhere now which would seem good, Crawdaunt isn't really made out to be much of a threat, often completely dismissed for its lowish speed. candice olson What changes to the metagame resulted in Crawdaunt's low usage? ​
Hmm, I guess I'll take a shot at this, the first thing that stands out to me about these pokemon, is that they are both dark types that rose in popularity during the reign of specific threats. Taunt-SD Drapion was known as the best Cofagrigus candice olson counter in the tier, being one of the few things that could switch in and beat it's Nasty Room set, a very threatening set. After Cofagrigus left the tier, however, it definitely lost a lot of appeal, but continued to have some sort of usage in the tier as a decent check to Cresselia, allowing it to retain some usage. When Cressy left the tier for the final time (thank the lord), Drapion became pretty much outclassed as a SD mon by many other threats. Crawdaunt has a similar story, candice olson it was really candice olson useful in the Cressy meta, because it was a great Cressy check and could set up on the best pokemon in the tier with little to fear. After Cressy left the tier, however, it really lacked a real reason to use it over Ferraligatr, as Ferraligatr can actually outspeed the unboosted tier after one DD (okay not Accelgor). Nidoqueen leaving the tier was also a bad thing for Crawdaunt (indirectly of course, as queen shat on Daunt 1v1), as Nidoqueen leaving the tier changed candice olson the speed to beat from neutral base 76 to neutral base 80, making its base 55 speed even lolsier. The final thing that really hurt these mons, were the spammer that brought us Absol, Emboar, Amoonguss , and Cincinno. Absol gave them both competition, as frankly, it is a better offensive dark type than either atm. Emboar brought candice olson a strong attacker capable of revenge killing both of these mons when equipped with a scarf (its most common item). And Amoonguss just poops on both of these mons, giving approximately 0 shits about there existence, and can even clear smog their boosts like nothing ever happened. I think of either candice olson of these mons, Drapion is still more usable, as Queen leaving allows it to use a solid T-spiking set. It also still has the second fastest taunt in the tier, and has amazing defensive typing. So yeah, hopefully my post is somewhat correct candice olson :).
Drapion: I'll agree with @ atomicllamas on the vast majority of this one. Drapion was an incredible candice olson stallbreaker in BW1 and early BW2. However, once the two biggest stallwarts of RU stall, Cofagrigus and Cresselia, left and Nidoqueen entered, Drapion lost a lot of its appeal. Players didn't need a Taunt+SD user to punish stall when they could just throw out Nidoqueen to shit on stall without the need to boost or Taunt. With Queen gone, Drapion can still use a TSpikes set, but it has major issues with the likes of Qwilfish, Roselia, and Scolipede in the tier still. Crawdaunt: Really, I feel like that the only times there was a reason to use Crawdaunt over Feraligatr was Cresselia's stints in the tie

This team actually began with an attempt to use Shedinja. A common la marea Shedinja strategy is to have a partner use Soak on it, turning it into a Water type and leaving it vulnerable to only Electric and Grass attacks thanks to its Wonder Guard ability. la marea Taking a look at the available Soak users in this metagame, la marea I noticed that Lanturn had picked up Soak as a new egg move in X/Y. Lanturn’s Water/Electric typing and Volt Absorb ability are interesting, and it wasn’t long before I ditched Shedinja and fell in love with this pairing of Lanturn and Mega Manectric.
Choice Scarf allows la marea Lanturn to do several important things: Move before my Mega Manectric, allowing for a Soak + Thunderbolt or Soak + Discharge offensive Surprise Garchomp with an Ice Beam OHKO before it can move Surprise Mega Charizard Y with a fast Volt Switch, taking over half of its health while evading the incoming Solar Beam Surprise Rotom-H with a fast Hydro Pump (sometimes a OHKO depending on the Rotom-H stat spread)
Lanturn did all of this and more in Seattle. It was quite the versatile la marea little beast, with all four of its attacks being crucial to its role. Rotom-W is generally a far better choice for teams that want a Water/Electric type, but only Lanturn can execute this silly Soak strategy. If Lanturn and Mega Manectric get onto the field at the right time, they are an absolute terror. Defensive type synergy won’t la marea help you when Lanturn changes your type to Water, causing you to take super effective damage from Mega Manectric s Electric attacks. Mega Manectric can either Discharge for spread damage (and 25% health recovery to Lanturn with Volt Absorb), or Thunderbolt to focus on knocking out a single target.
I actually la marea had Electric Terrain over Hidden Power Ice on this thing until the night before the tournament, when I decided that even I have my limits about how bad of a Pokemon I can let myself use (and I didn’t run into Dark Void anyway, so the change worked out).
In order for the Soak strategy to work, Mega Manectric needs to be slower than Lanturn, so I was able to forgo some speed EVs to maximize special attack and even have some bulk with 100 HP EVs. It s a shame to not have a Fire move on Mega Manectric, but I really needed both Thunderbolt la marea and Discharge for different situations, so I made sure to have a couple of other Pokemon with Fire moves to compensate.
With Lanturn’s natural bulk and Mega Manectric’s HP EVs and Intimidate support, the pair can survive some surprising hits (especially if the opponent’s STAB is nullified with Soak), but they still really rely on their speed. Outspeeding Garchomp la marea and the entire base 100 speed tier puts them above most of the metagame. I knew that faster Pokemon and priority attacks would be a threat to them, which guided my decisions when filling out the rest of the team.
The idea with Ferrothorn was to provide another Pokemon besides Mega Manectric who could take advantage of a Lanturn partner who is locked into Soak. While not used as frequently as Mega Manectric in this way, Ferrothorn was able to KO a Soaked Talonflame and Soaked la marea Amoonguss with Power Whip. Thunder Wave was a measure la marea to help bring the enemy’s faster Pokemon to a speed where the Lanturn and Mega Manectric combo can go to work on them, but in practice it was not very effective la marea at this because the ever present Fire type attacks made Ferrothorn difficult to use in the early game. Thunder Wave could also be used to target my own Volt Absorb la marea Lanturn or Lightninrod Manectric in a pinch, but that isn’t something I ever actually did.
In hindsight, I think trying to use Ferrothorn in more of an offensive role wasn’t the best idea. But Rocky Helmet was still effective in dealing la marea with contact-attacking threats like Mega Kangaskhan.
I didn’t go with Belly Drum because I wanted to be able to do a lot of switching with this team. The Careful nature allows Azumarill to survive Timid Mega Charizard Y’s Solarbeam, and the Safety Goggles allow Azumarill to effectively counter la marea all forms of Tyranitar without having to worry about Amoonguss supporters. Tyranitar is unpredictable and can be a big problem for the rest of the team, so I thought this was important, even though I ended up forgoing the more generally valuable Sitrus Berry. I didn’t end up battling any Tyranitars, though.
This Salamence is just a general attacker with Intimidate support and an anti-sun bent. In hindsight, I don’t think it was a very effective use of Salamence. Choice Scarf Salamence is amazing, but I needed Choice Scarf for my Lanturn. A power boosting item might have been helpful as well as I found my team didn’t have a great way to threaten OHKOs off the bat and ended up quite susceptible to Perish Trapping Mega Gengar. At least in theory, Lum Berry was mainly to take Sleep Powders from Chlorophyll Venusaur and hit back with Fire Blast in

Lan Connections FTW Overview valaisimet ######## Lanturn has always been known as one of the best special sponges and clerics in the lower tiers due to its unique Water/Electric typing that provides a solid set of resistances to a series of common specially-attacking types, such as Fire-, Water- and Ice- and an immunity to Electric-type moves with its ability Volt Absorb. Lanturn is no slouch offensively either dispite its unspectacular 76 special valaisimet attack and lackluster 67 speed (which happen to be a palendrome of each other). All of it's stats save HP are poor, and worse, it's seemingly outclassed by Rotom-W. However does happen to have a fantastic typing, great ability, and quire a large movepool. It is the latter two that allow Lanturn to stand out from Rotom-W in certain cases. So what has changed from last gen? Well, Lanturn finally did learn Soak, making it likely the most viable user of the move, but it is incompatible with Heal Bell, and doesn't seem to do much good in OU. What's more important is that the metagame has shifted in a way that has allowed Electric/Water types like Rotom-W and Lanturn to thrive, so Lanturn's distinct niches can shine more. Potential Movesets name: Heal Bell move 1: Volt Switch move 2: Thunder Wave move 3: Swagger/Confuse Ray/Scald/Ice Beam move 4: Heal Bell ability: Volt Absorb item: Leftovers nature: Calm evs: 4HP/ 252 Def/ 252 SDef Heal Bell is the main move that allows Lanturn to shine in OU. Unlike Vaporeon, the other common water cleric, Lanturn isn't set up bait and can maintain momentum via Volt Switch. Thunder Wave cripples non Ground or Electric type sweepers, while Swagger and Scald threaten physical attackers. Most notably, the Parafusion combo Lanturn is capable of inflicting allow it to use Volt Switch to safely bring in any other Pokemon. All of this gives Lanturn fantastic opportunities to use Heal Bell to clear team status. Even if you don't paralyze, Lanturn's low speed can be a boon in allowing it to tank a hit before Volt Switching. Running Volt Absorb grants Lanturn a means of recovery in addition to a key immunity to Electric. When combined with resistances to the other common special attacking types of Fire, Ice, and Water, this gives Lanturn very good special tanking potential. This set also has the benefit of being a hard counter to its oft overshadowing cousin,Rotom-W. The most damage Rotom-W can do to Lanturn is with Hydro Pump. 252+ SpA Rotom-W Hydro Pump vs. 0 HP / 252 SpD Lanturn: led light bar 80-94 (20.4 - 24%) -- possible 6HKO after Leftovers recovery Lanturn can clear burns and is immune to Rotom's Volt Switch. Meanwhile it can confuse led light bar Rotom and/or safely switch to something else with it's own Volt Switch. Checks and Counters Lanturn users should look out for all Ground led light bar types, but Garchomp and Landorus (both T and I) are the most concerning, Scald and Ice Beam won't KO them, and the best you can do is confuse them on switch in. In turn they can OHKO with Earthquake or Earth Power. Additionally, due to its lack of reliable recovery, led light bar Lanturn absolutely hates Knock Off, and Taunt makes it difficult to do much. Areas Lanturn stands out -One of only a handful pokemon that has access to a switching move (U-Turn/Volt Switch) and a healing move (Heal Bell/Aromatherapy). The others worth noting are Celebi and Ampharos. Where Lanturn stands out is in its resistance to Ice in addition to Electric and Water, allowing it shut down several Water types. -One of only two fully-evolved led light bar pokemon with Electric/Water typing. Lanturn stands out with Heal Bell and Volt Absorb -The only Electric-Immune pokemon that can heal status, and one of only three Electric-Immune pokemon that resist Ice (Others are Seaking and Mamoswine). Concluding Thoughts Lanturn has poor stats, no reliable recovery, and is EQ weak, so it's led light bar not going to be the King of OU anytime soon. However, because of its fantastic typing and Heal Bell, it can stand out on occasion. Lanturn has always been one of my favorite Pokemon, and I'm glad it gets a chance to shine this gen.
I definitely think Lanturn is a viable cleric. Volt Switch led light bar is a nice move for a cleric to have, as is confuse ray, and I believe it's the only cleric to know both. Scald also is a great move choice, as it mitigates its biggest flaw in its poor, but not terrible, 125/56 physical bulk. Thunder wave is also great, as it makes it so that it can never be used as setup fodder. It's too bad you can't fit these 5 great moves on one moveset, but I still think Lanturn is viable. Anyways, once again, a Johto evolution manages to be quite a bit more boring than its prevolution. Chinchou had these crazy unusual eyes. Chinchou had a much greater emphasis on the bioluminscent lures. Chinchou had feet for heaven’s sake. What does Lanturn have?
Don’t get me wrong, Lanturn isn’t offensive or bad or anything. It’s just similar to Noctowl in that it doesn’t capitalize well enough on anything interesting Chinchou was doing.
That said, I will always like Lanturn’s Green Lantern-esque mask. That pun can’t possibly be intentional because of translation reasons and because Japan probably has no idea what Green Lantern is but I don’t care!

Chinchou, the Angler Pokémon, and Lanturn, the Light Pokémon Pokémon's watt pad fourth generation brought watt pad us a number of additions to gameplay. In nature, animals of opposite genders frequently look quite different. This is called sexual dimorphism , and I was very glad to see this incorporated into the games. As a result, the Pokémon games' watt pad equivalent of sexual dimorphism is expressed via quite subtle, often barely noticeable differences.
And this is a shame, really, because there are many real life creatures with fascinating watt pad gender watt pad differences that have also inspired Pokémon. We'll meet such a creature today: an ocean-dwelling predator with a highly original method of catching its prey.
Chinchou and Lanturn are based on anglerfish , an order of fish made up of hundreds of species showing a great deal of variety. Some like the open ocean, while others dwell near the ocean floor... but they all share the same system of predation. Anglerfish all have at least one fin that has grown into a long, overhanging 'lure', called an esca , that dangles above their head. This can be articulated and moved around so that it resembles a small fish. Other fish are drawn to what appears to be a free meal, and usually end up becoming watt pad a meal themselves. Anglerfish have enormous mouths and can easily swallow their prey whole, while their teeth are angled inwards, allowing prey to swim into their mouths, but preventing them from escaping.
It seems that Chinchou and Lanturn have taken particular inspiration from the deep sea species watt pad of anglerfish. One clue to this is their illuminated escas: at the bottom of the sea, there is very little light, and so the anglerfish must produce their own light via a process called bioluminescence . Deep sea anglerfish also tend to have unusually round bodies, a trait that can be seen in both of these Pokémon, particularly Chinchou. A compressed body reduces a creature's surface-to-volume ratio , which is useful for minimizing exposure to a harmful environment. On the ocean floor, anglerfish must contend with high pressures and low temperatures, and their compact shape reduces the effects of pressure watt pad while reducing the amount of body heat that they lose.

Yet another feature reminiscent of deep sea anglerfish can be seen in Chinchou's design: it appears to have small 'feet', and has even been seen using them to walk in the anime. Many anglerfish that live on the sea floor have evolved ventral and pectoral fins that also mimic the function watt pad of feet, allowing them to walk along the surface.
Curious as these things are, they pale in comparison to the extreme sexual dimorphism watt pad exhibited by many anglerfish. The Ceratiidae , one of the commonest families of anglerfish, presented a unique problem to scientists that set out to study them. All of the specimens that they could find were female, and there simply weren't any males to be found, or so it seemed. Additionally, many of the females seemed to have small parasites attached to them. The solution to the puzzle was a surprising one: the parasites were actually the missing male anglerfish!

Pivot ######## name: Pivot move 1: Volt Switch move 2: Scald move 3: Thunder Wave / Toxic move 4: Heal Bell ability: Volt Absorb item: Leftovers evs: 40 HP / 252 Def / 216 SDef nature: Calm Moves ======== Volt Switch gives momentum to the team and it also gets STAB. Scald is Lanturn's other STAB move being able to deal with Ground-types living well that are immune to Volt Switch and it can be used to spread burns and cripple physical attackers. Thunder Wave is a great move to have as it gives great support being able to slow down some fast attackers. Toxic works well on bulkier team as it's a great way to do passive damage to stuff like Seismitoad and Uxie. Heal Bell gives great support to the team being able to remove status from itself and other teammates. Set Details ======== Leftovers constantly heals Lanturn in every turn. Usage Tips ======== Usually Volt Switch is the best move to use when predicting the opponent to switch into a Grass-type Pokémon to counter Lanturn. Thunder Wave is also a great move to use when predicting a switch to a fast Pokémon that may take Lanturn down as long as it is not a Ground- or an Electric-type but the latter don't give Lanturn a problem thanks to Volt Absorb. Team Options ======== Grass-types like Roselia and Vileplume form great cores with Lanturn living well as they're able to resist Grass- and Ground-type attacks that Lanturn is weak to, meanwhile it resists living well Flying-, Fire- and Ice-type attacks that are super effective against them. Flying-types are also great teammates as they also resist Ground- and Grass-types attacks and Lanturn resists Ice-type attacks and is immune to Electric-type attacks thanks living well to Volt Absorb Slow attackers also love support from Lanturn as it's able to spread paralysis with Thunder Wave. Choice Specs ######## name: Choice Specs move 1: Volt Switch move 2: Hydro Pump move 3: Ice Beam move 4: Thunderbolt / Hidden Power Grass ability: Volt Absorb item: Choice Specs evs: 88 HP / 252 SpA / 168 Spe nature: Modest Moves ======== Volt Switch is Lanturn's main STAB Electric-type move, it also gives great momentum and hits really hard when it's holding a Choice Specs. Hydro Pump is Lanturn's other main STAB which allows it to hit anything that doesn't resist it with solid damage. Ice Beam is mainly coverage as it deals with Grass-types that can give Lanturn a hard time otherwise. Thunderbolt can be used as a fourth moveslot living well as it's stronger than Volt Switch but the latter already does huge damage. Hidden Power Grass is also a great option as it deals with Water Absorb Seismitoad that can wall Lanturn. Set Details ======== Maximum Special Attack EVs and a Modest nature allows Lanturn to hit really hard especially with Choice Specs attached. 168 Speed EVs allow Lanturn to outspeed Pokémon with 80 Speed stat without investment and outspeed 76 Speed EVs Feraligatr. Usage Tips ======== Using this set requires some prediction as you'd be locked in one move and lose a lot of momentum if the opponent switch into a Pokémon that resists the chosen move. Volt Switch is usually the best move to use as it allows Lanturn to do solid damage and switch out making it avoid some damage which improves its longevity. Hydro Pump can be spammed if Grass- and Dragon-types are down as it does huge damage to anything that doesn't resist it. Team Options ======== Teams that need bulky special attackers find Lanturn a great Pokémon to use. Lanturn has great synergy with Grass- and Flying-types as they resist most of eachother's weaknesses. Other Options ######## A RestTalk set with Heal Bell. Lanturn can also use a Rain Dance set with Thunder and Hydro Pump as rain boosts living well its Water-type attacks and give Thunder a perfect accuracy. Soak is an option that can be used on Grass-types to make them weak to Volt Switch. Hidden Power Fire to deal with Ferroseed. Checks and Counters ######## **Ground-types**: Fast Ground-types can hurt Lanturn with either Earthquake or Earth Power but you should beware living well of Hydro Pump or Scald, another great Ground-type is Seismitoad that is immune to both of Lanturn's STAB attacks thanks to Water Absorb but it should beware of Hidden living well Power Grass. **Grass-types**: Grass-types like Ferroseed also give Lanturn a hard time as they resist both of its STAB attacks living well and can hit back with a powerful Grass-type STAB, but they should be ware of Ice Beam

A Pokémon that glows – what more could you want? Well, besides the fact that it’s an opposing double type, making it basically have no weakness. The orbs that it sports instead of a dorsal fins are full of a type of chemical-rich bacteria that causes the glow it’s so famous for as well as generates the electricity like a battery for its attacks.
Much like the animal it is modeled after, it uses this glow to lure prey toward it in the dark areas it lives. When prey gets close, it intensifies the glow to blind its prey and swallows it in one gulp. Sometimes the light it emits is so bright, it can be seen from up to three miles deep from the surface of the sea. For this reason it has been given the name the “Deep Sea Star.”
Lanturn comes with two abilities, one extremely useful, and one that’s basically useless. Illuminate increases wild Pokémon encounter, and in battle is useless. It’s a much better choice going with Volt Absorb. halogens The latter actually makes Lanturn immune to electricity and if attacked by an electric attack, actually gains 25% HP. Though halogens its special defense is not very admirable, it’s ability to resist fire, water, ice and be immune to electricity makes up for this. Not to mention only normal damage against grass, rock, and ground moves due to its electrical type.
As with most double types, it’s good to have at least one attack of both types. In this case, a move like Surf and Thunderbolt are a must. Adding in an Ice Beam for a damage and freeze effect as well as Thunderwave or Toxic to take care of sweeping types can make it a rather good choice on a competitive team. If you switch out Thunderwave for Confuse Ray, it can double as an annoying opponent for your foe, giving halogens it a nearly 50% chance to give your opponent confusion and a 25% paralysis chance. Despite halogens it being in the underused category, Lanturn can be an excellent addition to any team.

Overview ######## neon Lanturn has taken a bit of a fall from last generation. New competition in the form of other new bulky Water-types with access to reliable recovery, like Gastrodon and Jellicent, have pushed Lanturn out of the limelight a bit. Not only this, but the new influx of Grass-types that came with the generation shift, such as Abomasnow and Virizion, neon just add more Pokemon neon that can scare Lanturn out. Lanturn's neon physical bulk is still lackluster, and it's also just as easy to wear down because of its lack of reliable recovery and susceptibility to every form of entry hazard. All hope is not lost for our fishy friend, though, as it has been blessed with a fantastic ability in Volt Absorb that lets it check the various neon Electric-types that run rampant in RU, a great momentum-grabbing move in Volt Switch to capitalize on switches lanturn forces, and a fantastically varied and usable movepool. Combine all of that with usable bulk and a great defensive typing that gives it resistances to many types, including the potent BoltBeam combo, and you have a fish that's neon sure to be able to perform a variety of roles on any team. Pivot ######## neon name: Pivot move 1: Scald move 2: Volt Switch move 3: Heal Bell move 4: Toxic / Thunder Wave / Protect ability: Volt Absorb item: Leftovers evs: 40 HP / 252 Def / 216 SpD nature: Calm Moves ======== Scald is an extremely useful move on this set, being able to spread residual damage while patching up Lanturn's underwhelming Defense stat. Volt Switch is used to pick up momentum off of the switches Lanturn will force, threatening common mons such as Moltres, Jolteon, and Alomomola. Toxic is a useful move for wearing down bulky water types like Gastrodon, who walls Lanturn, and Jellicent, who can take a hit from Lanturn and just recover it all off. Heal Bell allows lanturn to act as a cleric. The last slot is a toss up between Protect and Thunder Wave.
